Jess Phoenix For Congress – Great Person – Sharp Mind – For the People
At one of many yard parties, (meet the candidate) events put on by supporters, we met Jess Phoenix. Prior to meeting her, we were aware of the other two running for the position in our district CA-25 and had met them both. After spending better than an hour visiting with Jess, my wife and I agreed that she was the right person to put our support behind. Here are some points she made back then and has not veered from them.
Jess will work on our behalf to bring evidence-based policy making to Congress. Who better than a scientist! Right? Jess will be able to take the place of Steve Knight who sits on the Science, Space, & Technology Committee. This is huge, because Freshman’s to congress generally need time to “season”
Jess will work on our behalf to bring our district CA-25 into a new era of energy sources, making us a Green Technology Hub…
Jess will work on our behalf to bring sense to gun control. “I was a seventeen year old high school student living in Littleton, Colorado in 1999 when the Columbine shootings occurred. I saw firsthand how gun violence shatters lives and tears apart communities. Since then, we have seen too many mass shootings with no end in sight. Domestic violence and suicide attempts are also made worse when guns are involved. We need common-sense gun reforms that will help prevent mass shootings, domestic violence, and suicides. This means closing background check loopholes, opposing Concealed Carry Reciprocity, directing the Centers for Disease Control to study the gun violence epidemic and fully funding their efforts, and forming a Congressional Select Committee to investigate the causes and solutions to our country’s gun violence problem.” – Jess Phoenix

Jess Phoenix for Congress. It’s really that simple!!!
“Jess Phoenix is whip smart, has won every debate she’s participated in, and has a message that means a lot to me: We need to bring back evidence-based policymaking. Jess Phoenix is a Democrat, but thinks beyond partisan or tribal politics when it comes to making or deciding on policy. It should be all about the evidence. If the evidence says a policy won’t work, then it shouldn’t pass. It’s really that simple. If the evidence shows a policy is financially untenable, then it should be voted down. It’s really that simple. If a policy can be shown to do the greatest amount of good for the greatest number of people, then it should pass. It’s really that simple.
Jess Phoenix hasn’t attacked any other candidate (except Knight) and has never used anything other than her own positions to gain support. And, she’s done it all with ONE-TENTH of the money that the other 2 Democrats have raised. While they are collecting war chests, Jess Phoenix is collecting votes. Her enthusiasm rating is admirable, too. She has 21 thousand followers on Facebook, where Caforio & Hill have a combined 10,396 follows. Jess has 63K followers on Twitter, compared to 9,650 for Hill & Caforio combined.
I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m already tired of this election cycle. As a liberal, I’ve been watching the Democratic candidates for the last year. Lately, two of them have started tearing each other to shreds. Bryan Caforio has released a few mailers comparing Katie Hill’s blue-dog tendencies to the conservative positions of our current GOP Congressman Steve Knight. Caforio has spent months collecting Hill quotes in her own words and is now using them all against her, in her own words, no less. Hill has flip-flopped so much over the last year, that it wasn’t exactly hard for Caforio to do this. It even gave him enough ammunition to fill up three mailers with this stuff.
Hill’s attacks are more under the radar. She lets her supporters go after other voters who don’t support Katie; and they sure do. If you’re not a Hill supporter, you get endless lectures about how Hill has more money and doesn’t make up lies about the other candidates (except for when she does).
What does all this add up to? Easy- Jess Phoenix for Congress. It’s really that simple.”

According to (CNN); More young Americans are saying they will vote in the upcoming midterm elections than in the last two midterms, according to a new national poll released Tuesday by the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics.
“This movement has real potential to change the course of engagement for a generation,” said Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg, director of the Tufts Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement. “If they can bring about an incredible surge in turnout, I think they’ll change the way that us adults view young people as voting blocs.” The lead-up to this year’s midterm elections, though, is seeing a surge in youth interest. A recent march organized by the Parkland students attracted more than 500,000 people to Washington, D.C. and many more in state capitals around the country. A number of young people are upset at congressional inaction on gun violence and the gutting of safety, environmental, and worker protections under the Trump administration.
We’ve seen this same enthusiasm from our youth right here in Santa Clarita and other cities in CA-25 also in schools and demonstrations all over California.

Teen shot in arm at Highland High School in Palmdale, California; suspect in custody.
“A shooting just happened at a high school in Palmdale where I spoke on Monday. Fortunately, only one student was injured and the kid who did the shooting is in custody. The kids and teachers who had to feel that terror this morning are forever changed. I keep telling people that it’s not a matter of “if” your life will be impacted by gun violence, but “when.” Palmdale is no different than Littleton, Newtown, or Parkland.
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insane. We must change our gun culture, our gun laws, and the ways we track guns and study the epidemic’s causes and solutions.
This is all a huge factor in why I’m running for Congress”. #NeverAgain
(CNN) A 14-year-old boy is in custody on suspicion of shooting a teen in the arm at a Southern California high school Friday morning, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The shooting happened at or near Highland High School in Palmdale around 7 a.m. PT, even as some students still were arriving at school, sheriff’s Capt. Darren Harris said.
The names of neither the suspect nor the wounded teen, also 14, were immediately released. The suspect is a former student who left the school in April, LA Sheriff Capt. Darren Harris said.
The injured student brought himself to a hospital and is expected to recover fully, Harris said.
It’s the 21st school shooting in the United States this year.
Witnesses who were outside the school described hearing a gunshot or gunshots, and seeing students running from the building.
The suspect was apprehended near a Vons grocery store about a mile from the school, a Los Angeles County fire official said. Authorities found a rifle believed to have been used in the shooting “a distance away (from the school) in the desert,” Harris said.
