More young Americans to Vote – CA-25

Jess Phoenix CA-25 Congressional Candidate

According to (CNN); More young Americans are saying they will vote in the upcoming midterm elections than in the last two midterms, according to a new national poll released Tuesday by the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics.

“This movement has real potential to change the course of engagement for a generation,” said Kei Kawashima-Ginsberg, director of the Tufts Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement. “If they can bring about an incredible surge in turnout, I think they’ll change the way that us adults view young people as voting blocs.” The lead-up to this year’s midterm elections, though, is seeing a surge in youth interest. A recent march organized by the Parkland students attracted more than 500,000 people to Washington, D.C. and many more in state capitals around the country. A number of young people are upset at congressional inaction on gun violence and the gutting of safety, environmental, and worker protections under the Trump administration.

We’ve seen this same enthusiasm from our youth right here in Santa Clarita and other cities in CA-25 also in schools and demonstrations all over California.

In The Past; young voters have had poor turnout at the polls: Let’s Turn This Around and Turn CA-25 Blue with Jess!

Science fiction stars hosted Science Mayday in support of CA-25 Candidate Jess Phoenix

Science fiction stars support CA-25 Candidate Jess Phoenix

Last night, stars of the science fiction world turned out in Hollywood in support of CA-25 Candidate Jess Phoenix. There is a Science Mayday alarm sounding, and stars are supporting Jess in leaps and bounds.  Jess is a science superstar, and the science fiction community loves her. And no wonder, she even launched her campaign at the Vasquez Rocks, an iconic location right here in our district. It’s also the site of a famous Star Trek battle where Captain Kirk battles a lizard creatured called Gorn. Here’s a clip to refresh your memory.

The event was held at IgnitedSpaces on Hollywood Boulevard and was hosted by stars from the world of science fiction like:

  • Bruno Amato
  • Eric Balfour
  • John Billingsley
  • Mary Chieffo
  • Chad Coleman
  • Aron Eisenberg
  • Spencer Garrett
  • Terry Matalas
  • Mary E. McGlynn
  • Bill Prady
  • Randi Mayem Singer
  • Tara Strong
  • Christopher Titus
  • Wil Wheaton and
  • Joss Whedon

Some of the stars gave speeches in support of Jess, and we’d like to share some of the highlights with you here.

Joss Whedon has been in the trenches for a while. We’ll let him tell you about it….

Eric Balfour has a new baby on the way, and he’s concerned about the future. Jess offers a future that makes him feel safe for his child.

John Billingsley supports Jess and encourges you to support her as well.

At a recent candidate debate, Jess was asked about her celebrity supporters. Of course it’s kind of cool to have support from these people, but when you think about the world of science fiction, it makes a lot of sense. Science fiction holds up a mirror to our society. It exposes not only the ills of today’s society, it also offers creative solutions.

If we are truly to live long and prosper, we need candidates like Jess Phoenix in office who have the expertise to save the planet from ourselves. Jess is not afraid to run toward a volcano to study; she’s not afraid to tackle the challenges faced not only by our district but also our nation.

How can you answer the science mayday?

There’s only another month until the California Primary. The most important thing you can do is vote. If you need help with registering to vote, we have some resources available to you to help you out. Also, vote by mail ballots go out on May 7th.  If you are able, please consider making a donation.

Help CA-25 Candidate Jess Phoenix bring music festivals to our district

The Simi, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valleys are ideal places to live and raise one’s family. However, the qualities which entice people to raise their children in these areas are the same ones which can make life—I’m not gonna mince words here—agonizingly boring for teenagers and young adults. The stability and quiet don’t bode well for exciting night life. It is possible to inject some fun into a family-friendly area. There are a couple of awesome night spots in the 25th District, plus a world-class amusement park. However, these are exceptions to the humdrum rule. And, honestly, you can only ride Twisted Colossus or X2 so many times before your brain liquefies and your stomach explodes. But what if someone like Congressional Candidate Jess Phoenix was able to bring a major music festival to these communities? As a Scientist, Jess’ jobs—from educating children, to Geology projects spanning six continents, to running a major non-profit—have been diverse and evidence-based, so she is used to working with all types of people and generating logical solutions to problems.

Our district has festival potential

The 25th Congressional District has the benefit of a tremendous amount of undeveloped, wide-open space. (The AV and SCV are especially Tumbleweed-Friendly.) Additionally, multitudes of the area’s residents work in the Entertainment Industry. By bringing together these varied elements and coordinating the needs of the local business community with the wants of the area’s residents, Jess aspires to introduce an annual Coachella-style event.

A festival of this magnitude has the potential to raise the district’s cultural profile, generate positive publicity, and—not insignificantly—bring a massive infusion of cash. (C’mon, what municipality doesn’t like cash?) If a woman who specialized in logistics and problem-solving were to spear-head the effort, barriers like transportation problems and traffic issues could be addressed before the event ever took place. So vote for Jess Phoenix and give her a chance to address this challenge—along with a host of others.

You’ll be glad you elected her, one day in the near future, when you’re rocking your rainbow wig, rave gloves, and multi-color fur boots at SimiPalooza, Santa Coachella, & The Electric PalmDaisy Carnival.

CA-25-Jess Phoenix – I Want You To Science!

CA-25-Jess Phoenix – I Want You To Science!

“I Want You to Science,” declares Jess Phoenix on her campaign poster. But that doesn’t mean she’s asking you to run out and get a PhD. “We are all born scientists,” she believes. “We spend our lives exploring, testing, making observations. That’s what science is all about.”

That natural curiosity has driven her all her life. As a child, Jess read voraciously. She majored in history and wanted to become an English professor. But reading about the past wasn’t as fascinating as seeing it for herself, in the rock formations and volcanic activity that tell the story of our still-developing planet. She switched fields, earning a master’s degree in geology, specializing in volcanology. Jess also founded Blueprint Earth, a nonprofit research organization that collects a variety of data from a particular environment, including weather patterns, plant and animal life and the effect of human activity, and use it to create a complete picture of how a system works. She wants to bring that same, evidence-driven approach to politics. “Policy decisions need to be made looking at all the available facts, and working with people across fields,” says Jess. “That’s how you get the best policy.”

Field work in far-flung regions like Iceland and the Andes mountains has also taught her a lot about problem-solving, often with limited resources. Like the time she had to fix a blown-out tire with a piece of gum, a ballpoint pen and some duct tape. “It doesn’t matter what your problem is, if it’s an erupting volcano, a flat tire, God knows what. You just look at it, you take it apart piece by piece, and you figure out how you’re going to get out of the situation you’re in.”

Jess doesn’t claim to have all the answers, just the determination to keep asking questions. “There is no shame in not knowing something,” she insists. “The only shame is not being curious enough to find out.”

Science Mayday! Help CA-25 Candidate Jess Phoenix save the earth!

Mayday! Mayday! Science is under assault!

The earth is paying the price for it’s lack of evidence-based policy. Let’s beam up a solution: send scientist and CA-25 candidate Jess Phoenix to Congress for some much needed evidence-based policy and solutions.

The greatest threat to our security and prosperity is global climate change. Scientists agree – human activity is a big factor. When Republicans in Congress deny this reality, they are setting Americans up for suffering. I’ve studied climate change around the world during my decade of work as a scientist, and I will bring truth and facts to the table.” – Jess Phoenix

To save the earth, a Phoenix must rise!
